It is a common knowledge that Russian people’s demand in long grain rice is fully provided with imported rice. To start a program of effective substitution of import “Agro-Alliance” Company together with State Research Institute “SRI of Rice” began work on division into districts of long grain rice varieties of Italian selection.

Due to similarity of climate in North Italy and Krasnodar region, the experiment showed good results on Kuban fields in two years time. This year “Southern Rice Company”, the branch of the Holding, started the extended production of seeds of the best Italian varieties. To answer the purpose 31 hectares of rice fields were sown and storage of seeds created, which will be used next year taking into account the experience gained in years 2007-2009.
